Airports – Don’t you just love them?
What are the things that annoy consultants the most?
What are your three pet hates?
How many funny stories do you have?
We travel, its part and parcel of the job of a Consultant. Some of us will do it by car or train, but for those of us who have Clients further afield flying is the only option, and if you fly you must go through an airport, and that is where the fun begins.
We arrive hoping there will be no delays or cancellations, and the dreaded text message having not arrived “your flight is delayed, please go to the airport at the usual time and await updates”.

What are the things that annoy us the most? Here are my top three pet hates:
- Security Queues
People who have no clue how to go through security. They are in front of you emptying pockets, trying to put toiletries into a plastic bag, holding up the entire queue. After a while hopefully, we will have climbed up the frequent flyer ladder and get fast tracked which usually has like-minded individuals in the security queue but not always.
- Holiday Makers
If its not annoying enough that half the travellers are off on holiday but the fact, they hold you up because they just aren’t used to the airport, they are rarely in any hurry and there is nothing more irritating then been stuck behind a family who don’t know how to use the machines, have bags that are too heavy or can’t find their passports because they have forgotten in to which bag they packed them. Needless to say, school holidays are the worst time for us frequently travelling consultants.
- High Prices
It is only human to love a bargain, and one thing that is a bonus of travelling through airports regularly is the fact you can usually pick up cosmetics and the like cheaper than on the high street. However, the price of food and drinks are usually so inflated at airports, even if we are claiming the cost of dinner on expenses, it’s the principle of overpaying for stuff that gets to me.
People often tell me that my job is so glamorous with so much travel, and don’t get me wrong I have been to some amazing places, but when you are sitting in the business lounge in Qatar awaiting for your next flight, it is Saturday night and you have missed your best friends engagement party, it somehow doesn’t feel so glamorous.
Our discussion boards at BeConsultwise have, not only work-related chats, but ones where we can share funny travelling anecdotes, amazing stories and great memories of where we have been on our consulting journey. So why not come join us and become part of the Beconsultwise network.
