What can Networking Skills do for me?

What can Networking Skills do for me?

Ever doubted if you have any Networking skills?

Do people seem to naturally network right in front of you?  You know they are networking effortlessly, but have no idea how?

Need help getting started or back on track with your networking skills?

Whether it is in your personal or working life, good Networking - on a small or large scale – can be an extremely rewarding experience. Going to Networking Events can bring you into contact with people you may not have met in normal everyday life, who then become a very valuable part of your network.

In short Networking is:

  • Groups of people who stay in contact to exchange information
  • Bringing People together who otherwise might not have met.
  • Helping you to make the most of people you meet to your mutual benefit
  • Facilitating you to Show an Interest in other people

Our relationships in life primarily develop through associations.  These can evolve through a variety of different circumstances, going to the same school or university, growing up in the same street, working for the same company, working within the same workstream or channel, for example hairdressing or IT.   You will also find networking opportunities in other ways, such as your interests, for example, Volunteering, playing a team sport or creative groups etc.

The relationships we establish through different types of networks can sometimes become blurred as a networking relationship changes and moves into a different type.  So, you meet someone through work which then progresses into a friendship, which moves the type from an Organisational Network to a Personal one.  I have a lot of friends I met through work who I now rarely discuss work with.

Exploring the different types of networks and styles of networking is a great way to get you started on a new networking journey.
